For the storage of vast quantities of materials, large-scale storage tanks are required. Typically, these large storage tanks are constructed by welding together multiple small metal sheets. Therefore, stringent requirements must be imposed on the welding process to ensure the high quality of these large storage tanks.
The welding requirements for large storage tanks cover multiple aspects, including materials, processes, operations, and quality control. First, material selection must undergo rigorous re-inspection; steel grades used for the first time must undergo process qualification according to established standards to determine appropriate welding parameters. For butt welds in tank walls with high tensile strength and substantial plate thickness, low-hydrogen electrodes should be used. Before use, welding consumables must be dried and properly stored.
During welding operations, ensure that the bevel and both sides are clean and dry, free of impurities such as dirt, sand, and rust. Arc initiation and arc termination should be performed within the bevel to prevent arc crater cracks. For double-sided welded butt joints, root preparation is required before welding on the back side; after root preparation for low-alloy steels, penetrant testing must also be conducted. Welding operations must not be carried out under special weather conditions, such as rain or snow, excessive wind speeds, or temperatures that are too low.
The welding sequence is crucial for minimizing deformation and stress. For example, on the middle deck plate, short welds should be completed before long welds; welders must arrange their work symmetrically and employ a segmented backstepping technique. As for tank wall welding, longitudinal welds should be completed first, followed by circumferential welds, ensuring that the welding directions remain consistent.
In addition, when welding stainless steel storage tanks, it is necessary to use a process with low heat input and short arc length. Welds with high corrosion resistance requirements should be welded last. After welding is completed, non-destructive testing must also be performed to ensure that the weld quality meets the relevant standards.

The quality of brake fluid in oil tankers directly affects driving safety!
Tank trucks are also referred to as hazardous-material vehicles. Currently, China has seen a frequent occurrence of traffic accidents involving such vehicles, causing significant harm to society and families. Of course, the high incidence of accidents is closely linked to the vehicle’s braking performance, which leaves much to be desired. So, how can we prevent these accidents before they happen?
Full-synthetic oil for tanker truck maintenance may not be right for you!
Some tanker truck users need to change their engine oil after driving a certain number of kilometers. They’ve heard that fully synthetic oil is better than the semi-synthetic oil originally used in their vehicles—can they switch to fully synthetic oil? Actually, this depends closely on the specific vehicle model; what’s good for one vehicle may not necessarily be suitable for another.
